Tom Borello Headshot

My name is Tom Borello and have over 50 years of photography experience that all began when I took an elective photography class as a senior in high school. From that moment on, I was hooked. I still remember taking my first, truly proper, black and white shot at Beat Café in Sausalito, California, in 1967.

I’ve worked as a wedding photographer, photo artist, photo lab operator, certified photo hazardous materials specialist, and darkroom enthusiast. Over the course of almost 30 years, I owned and operated two camera stores; first The Film Company, in Mill Valley, California, and later, PICS, in San Rafael, California. In addition, I have been teaching photography and camera skills to students of all backgrounds and experience levels since the 1970s, and I’ve helped thousands of photographers pick out the camera that best suits their needs.

I received an Associate of Arts degree in Photography from the College of Marin, studied Art and the History of Art in Photography at Sonoma State, and studied Alternative Photography Techniques as part of the U.C. Berkeley Extension program. I also participated in workshops at the Ansel Adams’ Friends of Photography School during which time I was able to converse, exchange ideas, and have my work critiqued by masters of the photography art world, including Wynn Bullock, Paul Caponigro, Roger Minick, and Ed Douglas.
