Color

We exist in color and it adds to the emotion, tension, and wonder we experience. These colors shift as light constantly changes from the time of day, direction, weather, and intensity. Between light and color, we are presented with endless possibilities to capture with photography.

I once asked Ansel Adams what he thought was the most successful, exciting photo he ever saw. I was 25 and this question was just as youthful.

However, his answer was life-changing for me.  He said that it’s not one photo but rather a process.  First, you see the image in your mind.  Maybe you don’t even have a camera.  Maybe you have to go and get one. The image is clear to you as you prepare the camera settings. Ansel said you need those skills to set the camera in order to capture your images. Finally, you wait until the image occurs. You trigger the camera at that moment the image in your mind is happening in real time. The decisive moment he called it. If you get an image like the one you had in your mind at the end, then that's the most successful, exciting photograph! (Known as the Ansel Adams Visualisation technique)
